I have been horse crazy for as long as I can remember, even though my family had nothing to do with horses. When I was 13 I convinced my parents to buy me a horse. I told them that if they didn't buy a horse for me I would die; I didn't think I could live much longer without one. My mother had mixed concerns, on one hand thinking I would eventually out grow the horse thing, on the other hand that I would become a "saddle bum". I was never quite sure what that term meant, but I guess that is what I became. I rode mostly English in the beginning, did a little jumping and dressage. I later switched to Western when my family moved from South Carolina to Colorado. I showed in local horse shows as a teenager, both English and Western. When I was in my early 20's I got interested in Barrel Racing. I eventually barrel raced both amateur and professional at jackpots and rodeos in Colorado and Arizona. I trained horses for barrel racing, started colts and also learned to team rope. I like to tell people I was about as 'normal as they came'. I had been exposed to natural horsemanship, but I didn't make a connection till about 1995 when I saw a live Parelli level 1 assessment and 2 day level 1 clinic. That time I was sold, what I saw made so much sense. At that clinic I decided that I would become an Parelli instructor. In 1997 I became a certified Parelli Professional. I have colt start and foundation training credentials. I am currently based out of Phoenix AZ. In 2007-2008 I cut back on my teaching activities to set aside more time for developing my horsemanship and horses. I am available for lessons and clinics, please feel free to contact me. I also take a few select young horses for foundation training. I am interested in a teaching/training opportunity for the summer of 2009 in a cooler location than AZ. AZ is a great winter get away, I have available a RV hookup and horse pen for those that want to come for a intensive lesson situation.
